Every Friday night, the village of Gros Islet comes alive with the sound of music, the smell of food and the opportunity for enjoyment. The town transforms itself into one of St Lucia's most popular liming spots. The Gros Islet street party has taken place weekly for more than 50 years, come rain or shine (only shut when Covid hit).

The legendary Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party, is a must-do experience for many a visitors seeking an authentic taste of Saint Lucian culture.

A Feast for the Senses

The aroma of sizzling barbeque and smoke fills the air, mingling with the sweet scent of freshly made local rum punch, now you are in for a treat. Gros Islet local trade their day jobs for a vending station, filled with drinks, local treats and more. Everything from freshly caught seafood, grilled chicken and pork, roasted corn and even roasted hot dogs are on the menu. A more famous one for the visitors is our local conch (know locally as lambi) grilled or converted into a tasty stew. Occasionally (in season) you might also find spiny lobster on the menu.

A Street Party at the Heart

Set on a cross road just steps from the vendors and few local bars, is party central. Surrounded by speakers, infectious rhythms of Soca, reggae and other local tunes blear out to make this specific spot Party Central. The energy is wild, with people jumping, drinking and dancing in the streets!

A Melting Pot

Beyond the food and music, the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party is a melting pot of visitors from around the world, shoulder to shoulder with St Lucian locals dancing, and mingling to their hearts content.

From Dusk Till Late

The street party starts early with welcoming bars, fresh fish on the water front while the setting sun retreats. The party continues well into the early hours of next morning. Hotels and resorts generally offer some form of shuttle services to and from the venue, or you can easily grab a taxi if required. This is a cash first environment as most vendors do not have the ability to Cards of any sort. You will be walking a little in a crowd so comfortable shoes are a must, dancing shoes are optional : )

Safety First

A mass of tourists, a crowded street with limited moving space. Like anywhere else in the world, you still need to keep your whits about you, don't go walking down a dark alley or be persuaded to venture off the beaten track. You will likely be offered illegal substances, if that is your thing cool but be cautious regardless.

There is always a good police presences, but stick with your guide or group be betterment of everyone, drink responsibly and overall - Enjoy the party!
