Saint Lucia’s climate and weather

Saint Lucia weather is very generally warm and comfortable, most of the year round. The weather tends to be warm and breezy with the odd scattered shower in the rainy season. However, the seasons seem to be changing from times past.

No Rain on this horizon

The rainy season in Saint Lucia is slated for June to December, but with the recent global changes, this has been fluctuating a little. The area of the island most likely to receive rainfall is the central and rainforest sections of the island, but we are a small island so scattered showers are very common island wide.

The Hurricane season in St Lucia is generally June to November but as recent trends would show, that is moving closer the end of the year. The months of September and October being more likely to see major storms.

For all you travellers out there, there is no need to concern yourself too much with this season, all of the hotels have plans in place for any rough weather. Island Sunshine:

Come prepared, swimsuit in hand, because in Saint Lucia, sunny days are the norm. You can expect an average of 7-8 hours of resumable sunshine daily, even when partially overcast, you tan will indeed still be topped up. The warm Caribbean Sea with its average temperature of 24°C – 29°C calls out to you day after day calling out for a refreshing dip or oceanic activity. Even if it feels a little cold at the start, a solid dip in will and you are all good. That coming from a local.

Tropical Temperatures:

St. Lucia boasts a tropical climate, with average temperatures hovering between a comfortable 23°C (74°F) and 31°C (87°F) throughout the year. The trade winds provide a gentle breeze, keeping the air feeling pleasantly fresh and preventing the heat from becoming overwhelming.

The average Temperature is between 25°C in January to 28°C in October / November with the min max between 22°C and 35°C. But do expect some fluxuations here.

The humidity is constant between 70 and 80%

Two Seasons to Discover:

While St. Lucia experiences sunshine year-round, there are two distinct seasons: the dry season and the wet season.

  • Dry Season (December – May): This is the peak tourist season, offering the best weather for beach activities and outdoor adventures. Rainfall is minimal, and humidity levels are lower, making it ideal for those who prefer drier conditions.
  • Wet Season (June – December): Rainfall increases during this season. Showers are usually brief and refreshing, followed by bursts of sunshine. Lush rainforests come alive with vibrant greenery, and the island boasts a special charm during this time. 

Island Microclimates:

St. Lucia’s diverse topography creates microclimates across the island. The west coast tends to be drier and sunnier, while the eastern rainforest areas receive more rainfall. Gros Islet, a popular tourist destination on the northwest coast, enjoys consistent sunshine and pleasant trade winds.

Packing for Paradise:

No matter the season, pack light, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are year-round essentials. If you plan on venturing into the rainforest, a light rain jacket might be handy.
