Balenbouche Estate

Balenbouche is a historic 18th-century sugar plantation located on the South Western Coast of Saint Lucia, 20 minutes from the international airport in Vieux Fort (UVF), 35 minutes from Soufriere, and less than 10 minutes from Laborie or Choiseul. The 80-acre estate, which is now a guesthouse, designated heritage site, and organic farm, is owned by the Lawaetz family who purchased the land in the 1960s.

The estate features a wealth of historical and natural attractions. Archeological remains on the property include Amerindian artefacts and petroglyphs along the Balenbouche River. The estate is also home to the Balenbouche aqueduct, a 200-year-old waterway with a 30-ft dam that was used to power the sugar mill's waterwheel. This is one of only two remaining intact aqueducts on the island.

In addition to its historical significance, Balenbouche Estate is known for its natural beauty. The property includes two secret beaches, on-site hiking trails, and lush tropical gardens. It is a haven for nature lovers, with over 30 documented bird species and a variety of crops and livestock, including cattle, coconuts, breadfruit, papaya, and organic vegetables.
