British Airways to increase flights to St Lucia
British Airways is increasing its Gatwick services to destinations including Orlando, Kingston and St Lucia from summer 2014.
The carrier will add another Boeing 777-200 to its LGW fleet next year.
As a result, BA will up its number of flights to Orlando from ten times weekly to 13, while its St Lucia service will increase from six weekly to daily… Read full article…

Ma Inks communiques with St Lucia and St Vincent
… Separately, Ma also signed a joint communique with Kenny Davis Anthony, prime minister of St. Lucia Aug. 16 in the Caribbean nation’s capital Castries, summarizing the strength of bilateral ties.
Under the joint communique, the two nations will explore opportunities for signing trade development and investment protection agreements, as well as cooperate on technology transfer and tourism promotion. St Lucia “Committed” to Redevelopment of Port Castries
St Lucia’s government is “fully committed” to the redevelopment of Port Castries, according to Deputy Prime Minister Phillip Pierre.
The plan is to transform Port Castries into a “modern shopping plaza for cruise passengers, visitors and locals.”
St Lucia recently held talks with cruise giant Royal Caribbean, which could be considering a partner on the project, according to a government statement… Read full article…

Discovery at Marigot Bay has been taken over by Capella Hotel Group
Capella Hotel Group has taken over Discovery at Marigot Bay on the beautiful island of St Lucia. Capella Hotels Chairman and CEO Horst Schulze said Capella plans on making a number of renovations to the newly acquired property, renovations will begin soon and should be completed by mid 2014. The 124-room Discovery Resort has been in limbo for some time undergoing receivership. The properties 124 rooms include 57 suites, most of which feature plunge pools.
The hotel will be rebranded as the Capella Marigot Bay. Sean Carney, a longtime Capella Hotels employee, is serving as the interim general manager.

The tourism industry records an increase in airlift
The first half of 2013 has seen a dramatic increase in the number of arrivals to Saint Lucia. From January to June, there has been a 5% increase of visitors, particularly stay over arrivals.
At a press briefing on Wednesday July 31st, the island’s Minister for Tourism, Heritage and the Creative Industries Honourable Lorne Theophilus lauded the efforts of tourism stakeholders who contributed to a positive 5% growth in the industry from January to June.
Director of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, Louis Lewis, expounded on the news saying the United States market has been growing consistently for 2013… Read full article…

St Lucia sees jump in air arrival
Air arrivals to St Lucia have increased by 5 percent in the first half of 2013, the government announced Wednesday.
The increase was driven by growth from the United States market, according to Louis Lewis, director of the St Lucia tourist Board.
“That has everything to do with the strategies that we have implemented so far, a number of them being led by public relations, getting strategic media out there in the market place to create that demand,” he said. “We’ve also had a number of familiarization trips with travel agents which we have been able to target very closely because of a programme that we have called the Saint Lucia specialist.”… Read full article…
