This 75 acre property, formerly a large sugar plantation, is now a Heritage Site, Guesthouse and Organic Farm, located between Choiseul and Laborie. It includes the main 180-year old plantation house, lived in by the owners, an 18th century sugar mill, and four quaint rental cottages.
It is located on the picturesque south-western coast of St. Lucia, 20 minutes from the Hewanorra International airport, and 30 minutes from the town of Soufriere, the Pitons, and many of the islands sites and attractions.
Balenbouche Estate offers an affordable, personalized and authentic holiday experience. Two of the cottages have two bedrooms and a kitchen. If by chance you are looking for some of those most comfortable mod cons then you are out of luck, there are no a/c units, televisions or telephones in the cottages. This is the kind of place you come to relax and get away from it all. The cottages do however feature fans and mosquito netting to keep those pesky critters away.
This charming estate is surrounded by ancient trees, fruit and flower gardens, nature trails and there are secluded beaches within walking distance.
Balenbouche is for independent travelers and families who are looking for something different: a nearly private, rustic getaway in the midst of the lush landscape of banyan, almond, calabash and frangipani trees. A vehicle is recommended as it takes 15 minutes to drive to the nearest grocery store (however, buses and taxis are also available). The owner, Uta Lawaetz, offers breakfast every day, and in the high season, dinner several times a week.
